In my 4 years of career in Digital Marketing, I have faced many entrepreneurs and business owners who wonder whether digital marketing will work for them or not. The answer, no matter what type of business they own is always same. Hopefully, this article will answer all of your query around whether digital marketing will work for you or not, and how to get started.
Ask yourself, do your business needs marketing? If yes, then the answer to whether digital marketing will work for you is also yes. Digital Marketing is nothing but marketing done on the digital platform. So, if your business can benefit from marketing, it can surely benefit from Digital Marketing.
So, how do I get started? How do I make the best use of it?
What do we do when we need to validate a product idea? We create an MVP or an MSP to test our hypothesis. Similarly, to test how digital marketing will work best for your business, you will have to test your hypothesis. Here’s how:
First, you will have to know whether people are searching for the solution your business is providing. For that, you will have to list down all the words that people may use to search for your solution on Google.
Eg. Let’s say you you are a TMT bar manufacturer. Your target audience is mostly B2B buyers. You think that for anyone with an interest in purchasing TMT bars will use that in their query search. For example, ‘Best TMT bar manufacturers in India’, ‘Earthquake resistance TMT bars’ etc etc.
Now, once you have some keywords, go to google keyword planner. Once you’re in, click on ‘search for new keywords..’. Under, ‘Your products or service’, add the keywords you thought about in the previous step. Now, under targeting, select a preferred location. You can specify a state or the whole country here. That’s it. Don’t get into anything else for now. We are only trying to see if there are enough volume or not. Click on ‘Get Ideas’.
Next, you can now see the results of your keywords. You can see how many people have searched for those keywords every month and the bidding price (CPC).
Here, if you see significant volume, that means your solution is been sought after by people. And that means digital marketing does make sense for your business. If done right, it will definitely help your business. Once you see this data, next what you need to do is hire a freelancer or an agency or full-time PPC person to help you setup your campaigns. However, it’s not as easy as it sounds. PPC is a crowded segment, and you may bleed money if you do it wrong. Get only the best people to do it for you.
There are other ways to find out whether and how digital marketing may work for you. I will write more on that later. Hopefully, this will give you an idea about whether digital marketing is suitable for your business.
